Alice im Wunderland illustrated by Eric Kincaid

I´m not dead yet.
This time I have german issue of Alice in Wonderland, published by Basserman (random House) Munich, and beautifully illustrated by Eric Kincaid (NOT in any relation to Thomas Kinkade, I was always confusing their names...).

Alice shrinks after drinking from the bottle. This version of Alice is clearly inspired by Carrolls photographs of the real Alice Liddell.
Eating the cake...
...and growing huge. I love how grotesquely disorted Alice looks during the growth.

Giant Alice encounters the Rabbit and shrinks after using the fan.
The White Rabbit chases Alice to fetch his stuff. She is tiny compared to him!

Alice big in the White Rabbits house.
Alice kicks Bill so hard that she wrecks the chimney.
Alice vs. the Puppy.
Doin´ shrooms.
Alice and the house of the dutchess.

Alice growing in the courtroom.
Alice stands up to the King and Queen of hearts. She is massive compared to them. This pic is clearly based on a Carroll photography.
All in all a very cute version of the book. The german translation is a bit weird at times, but the illustrations are quite lovely.

Three picture books.

This post contains three picture books I don´t really regard as great enough for their own posts.
First we have this 1993 "Zauberhafte Märchenwelt" edition from the geramn Unipart Verlag publishing in Stuttgart. It was Illustrated by Eckhard Freytag.

These are the for this blog relevant illustrations from that blog. Its pretty meh. The illustrations are far too kitschy and saccarine sweet for my taste.
Next one was published in 1979 by the german Meister Verlag, in the "Kinderland Buchpaket" edition. Illustrator was Einar Langerwall, who also worked for european Disney Comics at that time.

Those illustration have a nice trippy ness for them, you realize that the 1970s were a decade in which mindbending drugs were a commonpast time activity. I do actually like the image of Alice stuck in the house. Its really a shame that the colouration hasn´t aged very well...
Last one for now. This book was published in 1969 by McClelland and Stewart Ltd. in Canada. Illustrations are by Rosemary Honeybourne.

Not much to say about this one . The illustrations are quite bland, boring and generic. Their look appearantly is supposed to resemble childrens drawings. Very Meh.
Thats all folks.

Alice im Wunderland by Splitter

Here is a very neat french comic version published by the german publisher Splitter Comics last year.
The artists name is Xavier Collette. He gave the comic a dark, kinda steampunkish-gothy mood, yet the dynamic of his drawings reminds in some scenes in Grafitti.
Alice shrinks. Her outfit looks very neat in this comic.
I like the way she grows here. Also that she can´t fit completely into the panel at the bottom give a good feeling of her bigness.
I like her purple eyes. The design of the white rabbit is also interesting.
Nice sequence of Alice shrinking small again.
The White Rabbits house: To actually not show her growth, but to show the white rabbits house from the outside, and then just see her arm hanging out is an very interesting idea. Its different from most other interpretations of the scene I´ve seen so far.
She is so big that she wrecks the interior of the house just by moving in it.
And she shrinks small again.
Alice tastes the mushroom and zips smaller.
The squished look as she shrinks is very funny.
Arguing with that stupid bird...
Getting back to (relatively) normal.
Back in the hall of doors, doin it rite this time.
Alice begins to grow at the court.
Alice gets to her evidence. Again the nice idea of showing her size by making her too big for the frames of the panel.
Some nice POV-perspective in the last panel.
I really love the last panel of this page. The warm colours are great.
And the pack of cards attacks her. One thigs I really like about this comic is the incredible dynamic of the drawings. Just look at the central panel!
All in all this is a great comic. I can recommend it.
