Zenescopes Alice in Wonderland addendum

So, I have the comic with the sizechange cover now and there actually IS a size change in it. Alice battles the Jabberwocky, who is the big bad of this comic. Things look bad for her untill she eats one of the good old
shrooms.

She grows huge and proceeds to kick the snot out of the Jabberwocky.
After the beast is beaten she banishes him through the mirror into her phantom body in our world (yeah, you have to read the whole comic to get it). Afterwards she shrinks down to normal again.
The Zenescope Wonderland Comics (about 4-5 Series so far) are not bad if you are a fan of Horror comics. They put a nice dark twist on the topic (if you are not weary of all the dark and twisted versions of AIW that have surfaced in the last years) and the artwork is acceptable.

Zenescopes Alice in Wonderland

Zenescope Entertainement has made quite an impression in the last years with their "Grimm Fairy Tales" comics, in which they reboot classic stories in a quite dark and gritty, often quite gorey (well, "grim") way. They allready did some series concerning Alice in Wonderland, so far, only in the first series, "Return to Wonderland", did feature any sizechanges (I still have it somewhere, I have to search it and when I found it I shall post it in this blog). Now they have rebootet the actual story, of course with some twists. Sadly were at issue 2 (of 6) now and there are no sizechanges so far. The only thing coming close was a sequence of Alice growing up as prisoner/pet of the Jabberwocky (yeah, ist not quite close to the original, but cool anyways) I wouldn´t give up hope yet, thou. The variant cover off issue of number 6 looks quite interesting:

Lets hope that there will be such a scene in the comic at any point...

Alice in Wonderland Picture Book

This here is a very adorable manga version of the story:
It was published in 2006 by Gentosha Comics, artist is Sakura Kinoshita.
The hall of door scene. An interesting idea in this manga is that Alice looks different in every chapter.

In the white rabbits house. I don´t know why Bill is a tadpole.
Alice and the mushroom.
Alice eats a little of the shrinking mushroom before aproaching the house of the duchess. Its a new chapter so she looks different.
Again in the hall of doors.

At the court. There are many little gags in this comic, some a little anachronistic (the "Drink Me"-bottle in the hall of doors is an energy drink bottle). The idea with the changing looks is great, Alice looks in all of her forms adorable. We need more neat manga versions like this one.

Marvel Comics UK Alice in Wonderland

I found this little gem about 2-3 years ago when I visited London.
This comic was published by Marvel Comucs UK in 1978.  I don´t know who the artist was, bout you clearly see the Marvel style in the artworks.

Alice shrinks small...
...and grows tall.
And of course in the end she ends up in her own tears.

The white rabbits house scene.Pat is a goose here for some reason.
The mushroom scene short and good.
Alice does it right and gets into the garden.
Growing at the court.

Alice giving her evidence with the usual result.
I really like this comic, Alice in Wonderland in classic 1970s superhero style works surprisingly well.

Campfires Alice in Wonderland comic

I allready had some very good Alice comics here in this blog.
This here is not so much good...
It was published in 2009 by Campfire, and indian (!) publisher that has specialiced on retelling classic stories in comic form. Illustrator is and indian guy named Rajesh Nagulakonda, frankly, he didn´t do a quite good job here...
The whole artwork of this comic looks weird, the drawings look off, the colours are muddy and the paneling is chaotic. The worst part is Alice herself, that has to be one of the most ugliest versions of Alice I´ve evers seen. Its not that bad on this page thou.
Alice shrinks tiny. Again the panels in this page are too random, too chaotic. Its tedious to read that.
Alice grows big. At least the growing and shrinking looks quite good here.
And she gets small again and falls into the lake of tears. Note how strange Alice looks in some panels.
In the white rabbits house. The perspective is seriously wrong in some panels.
Even worse perspective on this page!
Those animals look awfull. Also last panel: Whats wrong with her face?
This looks all so awfully off. Perspective, proportions...
Whats wrong with her face?

Her neck looks like a curly Fleischwurst...
Doin´ it rite.
Growing in the courtroom. Why is that mouse purple? Whats wrong with her face?!?
Wait, what? Excuse me, Mr. Nagulakonda, but how does panel one work? This panel doesn´t make any sense. Whats wrong with her face?!?!?!?!
The perspectives are really awfull.
Is it me or do the characters look worse the longer this comic goes on?
WHATS! WRONG! WITH! HER! FACE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Awfull. Truely terrible. This has got to be one of the worst Alice in Wonderland comics to date. If I didn´t knew it better I´d say the Indians are taking revenge on Britain for the oppression in the colonial era by f*cking up one of ntheir most beloved childrens classics. Its almost as bad as the Classics Illustrated version I reviewed earlier. Only that there the artist didn´t give a damn while here the artists simply is not good. At all. I don´t know which is worse... However, when you see this comic, well buy it only is your collection needs completation.
